Universalism within the church is coming.
Many pastors are preaching universalism is the future of our church. They say all roads (beliefs) lead to the same God, if you believe in God that’s all that matters, or in Christ, we are all brothers. Years ago even Billy Graham told Pastor Robert Schuller (while being interviewed) that “he believed that everybody that knows Christ or loves Christ whether they are conscious of it or not are members of the body of Christ” even if they don’t know it.” Several Scriptures tell us that in the end times there will be many false teachers such as in Matthew 24:24, “for false Christ’s and false prophets will rise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.”
The one world religion is described in Revelation 17:1-18 as “the great harlot” and will be part of the end times scenario. The term harlot is used as a metaphor for false religion. There is no doubt that some sort of one world religion under the false prophet will be part of the end times, perhaps made up of a number of different religions, sects, and isms that are around today. And we are told to stay away from them and their teachings (“for you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consist in all goodness, righteousness and truth and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.” Ephesians 5:11.)
With that in mind let’s look at who is slipping into the idea that we all believe in the same God and we all will be saved.
Denominations and individual pastors are increasingly accepting the notion that we all love and serve the same God and that we could all belong to a central church. Note the following;
Evangelical mega-pastorRick Warren is on record embracing Roman Catholicism as a viable form of the historic orthodox Christian faith. In an interview conducted by Roman Catholic apologist Raymond Arroyo, Warren refers to Rome’s current Pope Francis as “our new pope.
The unity Warren is proposing fits perfectly in the New World Order paradigm of the Papacy and the United Nations. Ecumenism among Christians and across religions is one small part of a huge initiative towards a global government and global religion that satisfies them all. In June of 2014, Pope Francis was the host of two special interfaith gatherings at the Vatican. In June, 2014 not only did Pope Francis hold ecumenical services in the Vatican where he prayed to the moon god of Islam, Allah, he also held high-level meetings with megachurch pastor, Joel Osteen (false teacher) and U.S. Senator Mike Lee who was there to represent the Mormon Church. The NAR-affiliated false teacher Lou Engle, founder of the “Azusa Now: The Call” exchanged foot kisses with a Roman Catholic leader live on stage in front of a cheering audience of 100,000+ packed into the LA Coliseum this past weekend.
Matteo Calisi, the Roman Catholic leader appointed by Pope Benedict, who founded United in Christ, an organization that strives for ecumenism between Christians and Catholics. He tells the audience that division between Christians and Catholics is a “diabolical sin,” and that Jesus “doesn’t care” that Christians and Catholics disagree on biblical doctrine. What we have today are churches and pastors that teach God’s word (the Gospel) as Jesus called us to in a manner He prescribed competing with an unbelievable number of denominations, cults, radical, social justice and experience-oriented churches for members.
In Acts 2 Peter gave the people that were gathered together a message, words from the Prophet Joel, David and the resurrection of Christ and they listened. Peter gave them God’s words as they were written (and verbally handed down) and they responded. Acts 2:40-47 states: “40 And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation.” 41 Then those who gladly received his word were baptized, and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. 42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. 43 Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. 44 Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, 45 and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need. 46 So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.
The Apostles were not worried about offending people by teaching God’s word in its original context, or if people would come back next week. They were not worried about numbers, keeping people happy, providing them with all types of social activities or fulfilling their social needs. And they were not interested in entertaining the crowd. They preached His word and allowed God to do the rest.
A far cry from what is going on today in many buildings called church!
And I say Amen,
